word, Bob has created emotionally solid chains of lyrics that packed a serious punch. Twenty-five years after his death, Bob Marley and the Wilders' music is as popular and relevant as the day it was released.

His musical career, considered one of the pioneers of reggae, was marked by elements of reggae, seque and rockstic, as well as his unique vocal style and songwriting. [2] Marley's contribution to

[4] During his career, Marley became known as And he instilled his music in a sense of spirituality. It was also considered a global symbol of Jamaican music and culture and identity, and was
controversial in its outspoken support for marijuana legalization, while also supporting pan-Africanism.
Born in Nine Mile, British Jamaica, Marley began his professional musical career in after burying Bob Marley and the Wailers. The band released their debut album The Wailing Wailers in , which contained the single One
Love/People Get Ready; Famous around the world, the anthem established the group as a rising figure in Reggae.
The Oilers then released 11 other studio albums; Using stronger instrumentation and vocals at first, the group began to engage in the construction of rhythmic songs in the late s and early s, coinciding with the singer's
conversion to Rastafarianism.
During this time Marley moved to London, and the group played down their musical transformation with the release of The Best of the Wailers (). The band had international success after the release of Catch a Passion and Burnin (both in ), and managed a reputation as a touring artists.
After breaking
up the Villers a year later, Marley continued to release his solo material under the band's name. [10] His debut album, Natty Dread (), received a positive reception, as did his sequel, Rastman Vibration (). A few months after the album was released, Marley survived an assassination attempt on his place in Jamaica, causing him
to permanently move to London.
During his time in London he recorded the album Exodus (); It combined elements of British blues, soul and rock, and enjoyed widespread commercial and critical achievement. In , Marley was diagnosed with lentiginous acral melanoma; He died as a result of the disease in His fans around the
world expressed their sorrow, and he received a mention funeral in Jamaica.
The greatest hits album Legend was released in and became the best-selling reggae album of all period. Marley is also ranked as one of the best-selling song artists of all time, with estimated sales of more than 75 million records worldwide.
[12] He was
posthumously honored by Jamaica shortly after his death with a dedicated order of merit by his nation. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Rolling Stone ranked him 11th on the list of the greatest artists of all second.
Robert Nesta Marley was born on February 6, , on his maternal grandfather's farm in The
Nine Miles, St. Ann Parish, Jamaica, to Norwell Sinclair Marley and Sedla Malcolm.
Norwell Marley was a white Jamaican from Clarendon Parish, Jamaica, whose family claimed to have Syrian Jewish ancestry. [16] [17] Norvale claimed to have captained the Royal At the time of his marriage to Dele Malcolm, an African-Jamaican then 18,
he was employed as a plantation inspector.
[19] Bob Marley's full name is Robert Nesta Marley, although some sources gave his birth name Nesta Robert Marley, with a story that when Marley was still a child, a Jamaican passport clerk made his first and middle name because Nesta sounded like a girl's name.
[21] Norvall provided
financial support to his wife and child, but rarely saw them because he was not here often. Bob Marley attended Stephanie Elementary and Middle School serving the St. Ann's Catch Area in , when Bob Marley was 10, his father died of a heart attack at age Marley's mother later married Edward Booker, a civil servant from the
United States, and gave Marley two half-siblings: Richard and Anthony.
[26] Bob Marley and Neville Livingston (later known as Bunny Wyler) were childhood friends at Nine Mile. They started playing together while they were in elementary and middle school Stephanie. Marley left Nine Mile with his mother when he was 12 and moved to
Franktown, Kingston.
She and Letdeus Livingston (Bunny Wyler's father) had a daughter, Claudette Pearl, who was a younger sister to Bob and Bunny. Now that Marley and Livingston lived together in the same home in Trenchtown, their musical studies have deepened to include the R&A.
B. The last of the U.S. radio stations to be
broadcast to Jamaica, and the new fire music. The shift to Trenchtown was coincidental, and Marley soon found himself in a vocal group with Bunny Wyler, Peter Tosh, Beverley Kelso and Junior Braithwaite.
Joe Higgs, who was part of the hit vocal act Higgs and Wilson, lived on Third Avenue, and his singing partner Roy Wilson was
raised by Junior Braithwaite's grandmother. Higgs and Wilson would rehearse at the back of the houses between second and third streets, and soon, Marley (now living on 2nd Street), Junior Braithwaite and the others congregated around this successful duo.
Marley and the others didn't play any musical instruments at this point, and they
were more interested in being a vocal harmony group. Higgs was glad to help them develop their vocal harmonies, though more importantly, he began teaching Marley how to play guitar - thus creating the rock that would later allow Marley to assemble some of the best-selling reggae songs in the genre's history.
[32] [33] Musical career: Bob
Marley and the Wheelers In the early years of February Marley recorded four songs, Judge Not, One Cup of Coffee, Carry out You Still Love Me? And terrorism, at the federal studios of local music producer Leslie Kong.
Three of the songs were released on Beverley's with One Cup of Coffee coming out under the Bobby
Martel. In , Bob Marley, Bunny Wyler, Peter Tosh, Junior Braithwaite, Beverly Kelso and Cherry Smith were named the teens. They later changed the name to The Wailing Farm Boys, then the Wailing Willers, and then they were discovered by music producer Cookson Dudd, and eventually to Willers.
The single Simmer Down for
Coxsone became a Jamaican no.1 in February and sold about 70, copies. The Wilders, who regularly record in Studio 1, found themselves working with established Jamaican musicians like Ernest Wranglin (a arranger that hurts to be alone), keyboardist Jackie Mito and saxophonist Roland Alfonso.
Braithwaite, Kelso and Smith
left the Wheelers in , leaving the core trio of Bob Marley, Bunny Wyler and Peter Tosh. In , Marley married Rita Anderson and moved to his mother's home in Wilmington, Delaware, in the United States for a short time, during which he worked as a lab assistant at DuPont and on the assembly line at the Chrysler plant in nearby
Newark, under the pseudonym Donald Marley.
Although he grew up Catholic, Marley became interested in rastafical beliefs in the s, when he was far from his mother's guide. After returning to Jamaica, Marley officially converted to Rastafari and began growing dreadlocks. After financial disagreements with Dud, Marley and his
band teamed up with Lee Scratch Perry and his studio band, The Upsetters.
Although the alliance lasted less than a year, they recorded what many consider the Wheelers' best perform. Marley and Perry separated after a dispute over the allocation of recording rights, but they will continue to work together.
In , , the convert was
added to popular Jamaican harmony, where the pace slowed further. The new rhythm was a slow, steady, ticking rhythm first heard in the song Undertake the Reggay. Marley turned to producer Leslie Kong, considered one of the great developers of reggae sound.
For the recordings, Kong combined the Villers with his studio players called
Beverley's All Stars, which included bassist Lloyd Parks and Jackie Jackson, drummer Paul Douglas, gladstone keyboard players Anderson and Winston Wright, and guitarists Red Bryan, Lynn Tate and Ex Brown.
[42] As David Moskowitz writes, the songs recorded at this session illustrated the Oilers' earliest efforts in the new reggae
style. Gone are the ska trumpets and saxophones of previous songs, with instrumental breaks now being played by the electric guitar.
The songs recorded will be released as the best album of the Villers, including songs Soul Shakedown Party, Stop That Train, Watchful, Go Tell It On The Mountain, Soon Come, You Can't See, Soul
Captives, Cheer Up, Advocate Out and Do It Twice.
[42] Bob Marley's apartment in Ridgemount Gardens, Bloomsbury, London Between and , Bob and Rita Marley, Peter Tosh and Bunny Wyler re-cut some old songs with JAD Records in Kingston and London in an seek to commercialize the sound of the Wheelers.
Bunny
later argued that these songs should not be released on the album They were just demos that register companies listen to. In , Bob and Rita visited songwriter Jimmy Norman in an apartment in the Bronx. Norman wrote the extended lyrics to Kai Winding's Time Is on My Side (covered by the Rolling Stones) and also wrote for
Johnny Nash and Jimi Hendrix.
A three-day jam session with Norman and others, including Norman's co-writer El Fifero, ended with a minute tape of Marley acting some of his own works and Norman-P.P.P. Po. This tape, according to reggae archivist Roger Steffens, is rare in that it was influenced by pop rather than reggae, as
part of an effort to break marley into U.S.
charts. According to a New York Times article, Marley experimented with tape with different sounds, adopting a doo-wop style in Stay With Me and the slow love ballad style of s artists in Splish for My Splash. Marley, an artist who has yet to be based outside his native Jamaica, lived in
Ridgemount Gardens, Bloomsbury, during In , Bob Marley signed with CBS Records in London and toured the UK with soul singer Johnny Nash.
While in London, the Oilers asked their road manager, Brent Clark, to introduce them to Chris Blackwell, who licensed some of their coxon releases for his island records. The
Wheelers intended to discuss the transcripts associated with these liberators; Instead, the meeting resulted in an offer of an advance of 4, lischet to record an album.
Ever since Jimmy Cliff, the island's top reggae celebrity, recently left the label, Blackwell has been ready to be replaced. In Marley, Blackwell recognized the elements
needed to capture the rock crowd: I was dealing with rock music, which was really rebellibed music.
I felt like this was really going to be the way to break Jamaican music. But you needed someone who could be that picture. When Bob came in he really was that image. The Wilders returned to Jamaica to record in Harry J. In Kingston,
which resulted in catch a fire.
The motion picture was recorded mainly in eight tracks, marking the first hour the reggae band had access to an permeable studio, which they had the same treatment as their rock 'n' roll counterparts. Blackwell wanted to form more of a drifting, mesmerizing feeling than a reggae hit, and reorganized Marley's mixes
and arrangements.
Marley travelled to London to oversee Blackwell's exaggeration of an album that included misttoeing the mix from the heavy sound of Jamaican music and omitting two songs. [47] First of the Vailers For Island, Hold a Fire, released worldwide in April , packed like a rock record with a singular Zippo lighter lift.
It
initially sold 14, units, and received a positive critical reception. The album Burnin, which included I Shot the Sheriff, was released tracking the song I Shot the Sheriff. Eric Clapton was given the album by his guitarist George Terry in the expect that he would enjoy it.
Clapton was impressed and chose to record a cover of I Shot the
Sheriff which became his first U.S. hit since Layla two years earlier and reached number one on the Billboard Hot chart on September 14, Many Jamaicans weren't thrilled with the new reggae sound in Catch a Fire, but Bernin's Trenchtown style found fans across both reggae and rock audiences.
During this time Blackwell gave
his residence and company headquarters at 56 Hope Road (then known as Island House) to Marley. The property became not only Marley's office but also his home. The Oilers were scheduled to open 17 U.S. shows for Stelli and the Family Stone.
After four shows, the band was fired because they were more popular than the shows they
were developed for. The Wilders disbanded in , with each of the three main members of a solo career. Changes in organising and firing the main article: The Attempted Assassination of Bob Marley - The Villars Live at Crystal Palace Bowl in south-east London, during the Uprising tour despite the breakup, Marley went on
to record as Bob Marley and the Villers.
His fresh backing band included brothers Carlton and Aston family man Bart on drums and bass respectively, Junior Marvin and Al Anderson on lead guitar, Tyrone Downey and Earl And Willia Lindo on keyboards, and Alvin Syco Patterson on percussion. The I Threes, which included Jodie Mwat,
Marcia Griffiths and Marley's wife Rita, provided backing vocals.
In , Marley made an international breakthrough with his first hit outside Jamaica, with a live version of No Woman, No Blubber, from The Live! Album. The album followed his groundbreaking U.S. album, Rastman Vibration (), which reached 50 Billboard Soul Charts.
On
December 3, , two days before Smile Jamaica, a free concert organized by Jamaican Prime Minister Michael Manley in an attempt to ease tension between two warring political groups, Marley, his wife and manager Don Taylor were wounded in an assault by unknown gunmen inside Marley's home.
Taylor and Marley's wife suffered
serious injuries, but later made a full recovery. Bob Marley sustained minor injuries to his chest and arm. The endeavor on his life was considered a political motivater, as many felt the concert was necessarily a rally of support for Manly.
Nevertheless, the concert continued, and the injured Marley performed as Two days after the attempt.
When asked why, Marley replied: The people who are trying to make this world worse don't take the day off. How could I?
Bandmates Zapp Pao played as Bob Marley's backing band in front of an audience of 80, at the festival, while the Villars are still missing or from their mark. [55] [56] Relocation to England Marley left
Jamaica at the end of , and after spending a month recovering and writing on Chris Blackwell's Compass Point Studios website in Nassau, Bahamas, arrived in England, where he spent two years in self-imposed exile.
While in England he recorded the albums Exodus and Kaia. Exodus remained on the UK album charts for 56
consecutive weeks. It included four UK hits: Exodus, Waiting in Vain, Jamming and One Love (which meets Curtis Mayfield's hit People Get Ready). During his time in London he was arrested and given a conviction for possession of a small amount of cannabis.
In , Marley returned to Jamaica and performed another political concert,
no one's peace concert Love, again in an attempt to reassure the fighting parties. Towards the end of the performance, at Marley's request, Michael Manley (then leader of the People's National Party) and his political opponent Eduard Sigga (leader of Jamaica's rival Labour Party) joined each other on stage and shook hands.
Under the
name Bob Marley and the 11 Wailers albums were released, four live albums and seven studio albums. The albums included Bus's Babylon, a song double live album, released in and critically acclaimed. This album, and especially the latest song Jamming with the audience in a frenzy, captured the intensity of Marley's live
performances.
Marley doesn't sing about how accord can easily come into the world, but how hell on Earth comes too easily. His poems were his memories; Living with the wretched, he saw the oppressors and the ones they pressed. – Mikael Gilmore, Rolling Stone[60] Later Survivor, a defiant and politically charged album,
was released in Songs such as Zimbabwe, Africa United, Awakening and Live and Survival reflected Marley's support for african struggles.
His performance at the Amandala Festival in Boston in July showed his strong opposition to South African apartheid, which he had already shown in his poem War in In early ,
he was invited to perform on April 17 for Zimbabwe Self-determination Day.
Uprising () was Bob Marley's last studio album, and is one of his most religious productions; It includes the song of redemption and to love Jia forever. The confrontation, released posthumously in , contained unpublished material during Marley's life,
including the hit Buffalo Soldier and new mixes of Previously only available in Jamaica.
In , Zurich, Switzerland in July , marley was found to own malignant melanoma under the nail of a capital. Contrary to city legend, this scourge was not primarily caused by injury during a football match that year, but was a symptom of cancer
that already exists.
He should have seen two doctors before a biopsy was done, which confirmed the deadliest type of skin cancer: acral lantigin melanoma. Unlike other melanomas, usually on sun-exposed skin, acral lentil melanoma occurs in places that are easy to miss, such as feet, or under nails.
Although it is the most common
melanoma in people with black skin, it is not widely recognized, and has not been mentioned in the most trendy medical textbook of the period. Marley rejected the advice of his doctors to amputate Bachhan (which would have hindered his performance career), citing his religious beliefs, and instead the nail bed and nails were removed and
a skin graft was taken from his back to cover the area.
[65] Despite his illness, he continued to tour and was in the process of setting up a earth tour in The album Insurrection was released in May The band completed a major european tour, where they played their largest concert for , people in Milan, Italy.
After the
tour, Marley traveled to the Combined States, where he performed two shows at Madison Square Garden in New York as part of the Uprising Tour. He collapsed while jogging in Core Park and was taken to hospital, where his cancer was found to have spread to his brain, lungs and liver.
Marley's last concert took place two days later at the
Stanley Theater (now the Adam Center for the Performing Arts) in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on September 23, The only known images from the series were included in Kevin McDonald's documentary, Marley.
Soon after, Marley's health deteriorated as his cancer spread throughout his body. The rest of the tour was cancelled, and
Marley sought treatment at the Josef Disless Clinic in Bavaria, Germany, where he underwent an alternative cancer treatment called Issels Treatment, in part on the basis of avoidance of containers, drinks and other substances.
After eight months of effective failure to handle his advanced cancer, Marley got on a plane to his home in
Jamaica. During the flight, Marley's vital functions worsened. After landing in Miami, Florida, he was taken to Lebanon's Cedars Hospital (for the duration of the University of Miami Hospital) for immediate medical treatment, where he died on May 11, , at the age of 36, due to the spread of melanoma to his lungs and skin.
His last
words to his son Ziggy were currency can't buy a life. On May 21, , Marley held a state funeral in Jamaica that incorporated elements of Ethiopia. And Rastafari tradition. He was buried in a chapel close his birthplace with his guitar.
On May 21, , Jamaican Prime Minister Eduard Sigga delivered the last funeral eulogy to Marley,
saying, his voice was a cry everywhere in our electronic world. Its sharp features, royal appearance and reckless style engrave lives on the landscape of our minds.
Bob Marley has never been seen. It was an experience that left an unforieverable mark with each run-in. A man like that can't be erased from the thinker. He's part of the

[87] Worldwide, Marley's communication continues to resonate among alternative indigenous communities as well. For instance,
Aboriginal Australians continue to set fire a sacred flame to honour his memory in Sydney's Victoria Park, while members of the Indian Hopei and Howie tribes admire his work.

endless merchandise through a wide variety of media.
In light of this, author Dave Thompson in his book Reggae and Caribbean Harmony bemoans what he perceives as the commercialization silence of Marley's more militant edge, pointing out: Bob Marley ranks among the most popular characters and among the most misunderstood
characters Culture That the machine completely neutered Marley is beyond doubt.
Whoever dreamed of Che Guevara and the Black Panthers, and pinned their posters at The Wilders Sol Shack record store; who believed in freedom; and the fighting she forced, and dressed the role on an early album sleeve; Whose heroes were James
Brown and Muhammad Ali; That his God was Russ Tapari and whose worship was marijuana.
Instead, Bob Marley who reviewed his kingdom today is smiling altruism, a shining sun, a waving palm tree, and a string of hits that fall from a polite Margot like candy from a gum machine. Of course it guaranteed his immortality. But it also
humiliated him beyond recognition.
Bob Marley was worth a lot more. [90] Several film adaptations have also evolved. For instance, a feature-length documentary about his life, Rebel Harmony, won various awards at the Grammys. With contributions from Rita, the Oilers, and Marley's lovers and children, he also tells most of the story in his
own words.
In February , director Martin Scorsese announced his intention to produce a documentary about Marley. The film was scheduled to be released on February 6, , on what would have been Marley's 65th birthday. However, Scorsese retired due to scheduling issues.
He was replaced by Jonathan Dummy, who dropped
out due to creative differences with producer Steve Bing at the start of editing. Kevin McDonald replaced decoy[94] and the film, Marley, was released on April 20, In , ex-girlfriend and voice artist Esther Anderson, along with Gian Godoy, made the documentary Bob Marley: The Making of a Legend, which premiered at the
